Samso Island is located mid way between Jutland and Zealand, in the middle of Denmark, and is connected with the Danish mainland via the ferry from Hou in east Jutland to Saelvig on Samso's west coast. It is definitely worth taking a pair of hiking boots when visiting Samso in order to explore the island properly. Alternatively, hiring a bicycle is another great to explore the area. There are also regular bus services around the island that are operated by an energy efficient telebus system where buses drive on request. The Academy is located in the pretty harbour village of Ballen, and is a perfect example of building whilst leaving no carbon footprint.

Hou Guide

The Danish town of Hou is located in Aalborg Municipality on the Jutland Peninsular and lies across a waterway, the Limfjord, which connects the North Sea and the Kattegat east to west. The stretch of water also separates the island of Vendsyssel-Thy from the main part of the Jutland Peninsular. To the west the Limfjord widens into a salt water lake with low marshy shores and a number of islands. To the north west is Store Vildmose ("Greater Wild bog"), which is a swamp where a mirage is sometimes seen in summer. South east lies the similar Lille Vildmose ("Lesser Wild bog"). Store Vildmose was drained and farmed in the beginning of the 20th century, and Lille Vildmose is now the largest moor in Denmark.
