The town of Argostoli is located on the Greek island of Kefalonia which forms part of the Ionian group of islands. Visitors to the island can find Loggerhead Turtles feeding at Koutavos Lagoon. Beneath the Castle of St George, to the east of Argostoli. The area is now a designated nature reserve but was once an almost impassable swamp where mosquitos and malaria were common. Located to the south west of Argostoli is the holiday resort of Lassi which is on the Ionian Sea coast and has many beaches for visitors to enjoy.

The island's famous beaches and crystal clear waters are an attraction for many visitors. Myrtos beach, on the north western coast of the island, has been voted the best beach in Greece 11 times and has also entered the list of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The port of Argostoli is connected to the ports of Patras and Kyllini along with the other islands in the Ionian Island chain including Ithaka, Lefkada, Zakynthos and Corfu. The journey to the island will be by conventional ferry with a journey time of between 3-5 hours depending on the ferry company you travel with.


Kyllini Guide

Kyllini is a Greek town that is located on the Peloponnesian Peninsula's most western crook, and is perhaps best known as home to its busy port. However, there is more to the town than just the port and visitors should take time whilst there to explore all that is on offer. The first thing visitors notice is the town's backdrop of thick pine forests overlooking the town and the medieval castle that is located there. The town is also the beginning of am 11 km long coastline of white sand that gently leads to the lovely waters of the Ionian Sea.

From the town's highest point, the castle, all roads lead back to the town where visitors will find a square with a number of tavernas and shops. Also in the town there are good examples of terracotta roofed houses and apartments that seemed to have been built in a haphazard formation.

Also of interest in the town are a number of Greek and Roman ruins, with the most popular being the Crusader fortress of Chlemoutsi. Over the years the town has been ruled by Germanic tribes, the Turks and the Venetians and have all influence over the town in their own way.
