Located on the east coast of the Jutland Peninsular in Denmark is the town and port of Grenaa which is the region's main commercial and shopping hub and its largest town. Visitors who choose to take a gentle stroll through the town will see many works of art on display. Located in the town square, Grenaa Church has one of the finest organs and a carillon with 42 bronze bells. Also in the town is an aquarium, the Kattegatcentret, which is by the sea and has large sharks on display and focuses on Nordic salt water fish. There is also the Museum Osjylland-Grenaa in the town. The 5 km sandy beach is a major draw for tourists to the town as are the many pretty cottages that are available to rent.
Grenaa is connected by ferry to Varberg in Sweden and the island, Anholt.
The Swedish town of Varberg is located in Halland County and although quite a small town it was the most important town in North Halland. During the 19th century the town's prosperity was bolstered by the presence of a health resort where the main activities included swimming in the sea and baths and treatments in hot baths. Still in use today is the cold bathhouse which dates back to 1903 and the hot bathhouse which dates back to 1925 and is still probably the Swedish town with the strongest health resort traditions.
Over recent decades the town has grown and is now considered to be a medium sized Swedish town with its own centre of commerce and industry. There is a relatively large port with ferry connections to Denmark. The town centre is still characterised by its small scale with the square and its market on Saturdays constituting the town’s natural centre.
