About Slovenia

Slovenia is a small country in southern Central Europe, bordering the northeast corner of Italy with a short coastline on the Adriatic Sea. With seemingly endless natural masterpieces and jaw-dropping landscapes, Slovenia is a country filled to the brim with outdoor adventures. From the famous Lake Bled with its medieval church and the dramatic foothills of the Alps to the lush pine forest that dominates half the country’s total surface, there is something to excite all of your senses. The capital and largest city of Ljubljana is one of the greenest in Europe, having been awarded the ‘Green Capital of Europe’ title for 2016 by the European Commission. Aside from its cleanliness, this city offers beautiful architecture, most notably the hilltop namesake castle, and a vibrant clubbing scene thanks to the student population. Although Slovenia’s coastline stretches just 46 kilometres, the port in Piran offers a wide selection of international ferry routes. There are frequent crossings to the Venetian Riviera and to a number of ports on the northwest coast of Croatia.

Croatia and its islands are easily reached by ferry with many companies and routes on offer to suit most geographical needs. If you’re travelling via Northern Italy and without a vehicle then there are seasonal high speed catamaran sailings from Venice to a large number of destinations on the coast of Istria available. If you are travelling with a vehicle or your destination is further south then you’ll need to sail from Ancona, Pescara or Bari. The crossings are regular and operated by modern ferries which the make the journey a relaxing and pleasurable experience.
