Leaving Morocco's medinas behind, the short crossing to Spain lands at Tarifa or Algeciras, with the Rock of Gibraltar often visible across the strait as you approach. Tarifa, Europe's windsurfing capital, has a walkable old town and long Atlantic beach right by the port, while Algeciras serves mainly as a practical gateway to Andalusia's road network. From either port, the white hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera and the beaches of the Costa de la Luz are an easy detour before heading further into Spain. Bolonia's Roman ruins and enormous sand dune are an underrated stop along the same stretch of coast, often overlooked in favour of Tarifa itself.
