The I S Basiliocan Terminal is where ferries from Croatian and northern Adriatic destinations arrive. The Croatian town of Umag, in Istria, is the first city visitors reach when approaching Istria from western Europe. The town has around 13,000 residents and 45 km of coastline with the area away from the coast characterised by beautiful hills with fortifications that offer tourists a breathtaking scenery and an insight in the town and surrounding region's past. The sea around Umag is crystal clear and is perfect for swimming from May through to October. The city's history dates back to Roman times although it was only mentioned for the first time in the 7th century. Proof of its Roman past lies in the many remains and artefacts that have been unearthed along the coast.
