Tallink Star

Operated by Tallink Silja on the Helsinki Tallinn route

The modern 2000 passenger carrying Tallink Shuttle Star entered service in 2007 and operates year round in the Baltic Sea. The hull’s green colour reflects the environmentally friendly aspects of Star’s design which includes better fuel consumption, more modern technology and she creates much smaller waves compared to other high speed crafts!

Onboard you’ll find numerous facilities to keep you occupied including a choice of restaurants (à la carte, buffet, pizza and café), a huge shopping area, children’s play area, a business lounge, an observation lounge (private parties), cabin accommodation and more.

Onboard Cabins / Reserved Seating

Tallink Star has a choice of en-suite inside and outside (sea view) cabins which can be found on decks 8 and 9 at the rear of the ship. There are also cabins specially adapted for wheelchair access (located on deck 8). In terms of reserved seating you’ll find a 120-seat Business Lounge with wireless internet connection and TVs. For private parties there is an Observation Lounge on the 9th deck for up to 250 persons.

Onboard Food and Drink

There’s no shortage of places to eat onboard the Tallink Star. Take your pick from the versatile Á La Carte restaurant or head to the 450 seater ‘Delight buffet’ restaurant (located on deck 8 at the front part of the ship), or you could even head to the new Burger King onboard.

For that perfect cup of coffee, why not check out our newly renovated Café, which even has Starbucks coffee available, while ‘Café Snack Time’ (deck 8) offers sandwiches, rolls, salads, pastries, drinks and warm dishes.

If you fancy a relaxing beverage onboard then head to the ‘Seaport pub’ which, with its brand new look and feel, is a must see, while in the Sunset bar (deck 9) you can admire the beautiful scenery and enjoy a refreshing drink.

Onboard Shopping

Tallink Star features 1500 square metres of pure shopping on deck 7! In the supermarket you will find alcohol, cigarettes, sweets, toys, souvenirs and food, in the Perfume Shop you will find a wide selection of perfumes and cosmetics, and in the brand new Trend Shop you will find the most fashionable accessories from the most well known brands.

Travelling with Children

Children are well catered for onboard the Tallink Star with a spacious and recently renovated playroom which can be found on next to the Quick and Easy restaurant on deck 9.

Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Tallink Star guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

  • "Beautifully clean and efficient ship"

We had read a few comments about grubby areas and disgusting toilets but we saw nothing like this. The staff were quick to clean up and mess travellers had left without complaint.

  • "Day out in Helsinki"

What a great way of seeing two beautiful cities. By leaving Tallinn at 7.30 in the morning we were able to have 10 hours in Helsinki - enough time to get a taste of this lovely country and to vow to return. The Megastar and Star Tallink ferries were comfortable (Megastar slightly more so) and spacious and the two hours on board passed quickly eating, shopping and watching the views. Direct Ferries made booking easy and good value - second time I've used them and I would recommend for a very efficient service.

  • "24-Hours in the North"

On our return trip to Malaysia from the UK, my 14-year-old son and I decided that Finnair looked interesting because it gave us a 24-hour stop-over in Helsinki. As a 56-year-old on his first trip north of Edinburgh (I live in the tropics), my advice is to take a 14-year-old with you. Within 10 minutes of landing he was online and booked return train and tram tickets from the airport to the port, which were cheaper than I thought (about 12 Euros for both of us) and total journey time was about 45 minutes. He also booked return tickets on Tallink from Helsinki to Tallin. It was quick, simple (he used another newfangled thing called paypal) and again surprisingly cheap at GBP50 for both of us (kids under-17 get cheaper fares). It takes exactly 2-hours, so we sailed at 7.30, returning on the 4.30 which gave us 5 or 6 hours to explore Tallin (or at least the touristy, old city). It was every bit as fascinating as I thought it would be, especially if you live in any of our hyper-modern cities. The covered market was fantastic - lots of weird and wonderful things with great snacks and nice local beer (4 euros a pint). We went up the tower of the Catholic church for incredible 360 views, checked out the Orthodox church, walked lots of cobbled streets, and ended by treating ourselves at one of the (slightly over the top) tourist restaurants in the main square. The food and service are great, the view wonderful, all costing exactly 50 Euros for two meals and drinks (including 9 quid for a beer!) To me the boat trip was an added bonus rather than a chore. Pretty packed with duty free buying locals but room to stretch out and sleep. The boy spent his time indoors, playing on his phone; I used mine more productively by standing on the bow, smoking my duty free, and admiring the Gulf of Finland. Wonderful.

  • "Excellent service"

So easy. Brilliantly automated service but they also had check in desks. All signposted and with English option. Lots of place to sit. The only thing I would say which I thought was brilliant but may catch someone else out is you needed to arrive more than 30 mins before as they start boarding 50 mins before and left early.

  • "Excellent service "

I actually had a tricky situation. I first bought a ticket that was leaving Helsinki at 7:30 am, but changed my mind two days prior to the trip and changed it to one that was leaving at 10:30. Everything went perfectly. I had received the confirmation of the hour change in the same day as the one that I have made the request. And the trip went smoothly.

  • "Lunch with a view"

We had an enjoyable 2hour journey to tallinn. We went over lunch time so sat in the ala carte restaurant by the window. The view was great as was the food. If you buy the basic ticket you don't get seat allocation so I recommend going over lunch and sitting in the dinning area. There is a luggage storage area for a few euros.
