Caronte & Tourist

Caronte & Tourist offers regular ferry crossings between the Italian mainland and Sicily, between the ports of Salerno and Messina.

Carrying out private ferry services since 1965, the company established the Salerno-Messina route in 2001 to adhere to the newly introduced laws limiting the amount of driving time allowed for commercial vehicle drivers. This route is operated by two vessels named Cartour Beta and Cartour Gamma, cruising at speeds of 25 knots, carrying up to 800 cars, 150 trucks and approximately 1,000 passengers. Aboard these ferries are children’s play areas, shops, a restaurant and excellent cabins, ideal for the 9 hour crossing.

Caronte & Tourist has always placed great emphasis on the efficiency of their operations and the speed of their services, resulting in a passenger experience that is second to none in their sector. Moreover, the Messina Strait is among the most beautiful places in the world; the view of the Sicilian and Calabrian coasts, which almost touch, is a sight not to be missed for those on-board.

Directferries.com provides an impartial ferry comparison service allowing you to view numerous ferry company timetables and fares in one quick and easy search. Compare Caronte & Tourist timetables and prices now with all alternative ferry operators before booking your ferry ticket.

Caronte & Tourist Customer Reviews

  • "Fine once you're on board"

Not really geared up for foot passengers. Had to wait in the booking office once we found it - at 1am in back street Messina a bit of a task - minimal facilities for foot passengers (mainly a freight ferry). Once on board, clean comfortable cabin and crossing times allowed for a good nights sleep. A good way to arrive at the Amalfi coast as the views when you wake up are stunning. We couldn't find the advertised shuttle bus to the train station in Salerno - not sure it was running for so few foot passengers. We were told this was a 5 minute walk, but is much longer.

  • "UK to Malta"

Travelling from UK to Malta by car with trailer and a child. We booked a cabin so we could get our heads down for a while after so much driving. Cabin is well worth the money, clean sheets, towels with ensuite!! Otherwise you have to book a seat in the pullman area, otherwise its out on the deck or find a spot inside on the floor... The ferry was clean, pleasant journey, staff friendly. The canteen is only open for a short time with long queues, a packed lunch is advisable. Considering it is middle of summer, the price was acceptable. No frills, if you want 5 star, book a cruise!

  • "Enough"

As always on board on these ferries the cleaning is always poor, of course also the customers shoul have more civic sense and respect of the common areas, in order to facilitate the staff work. Anyway enough in conclusion. Perfectly in time (we arrive an houre in advance).
