How to get to Dublin

Ferries run regularly from Holyhead to Dublin, with the crossing taking around 3 hours and 15 minutes. Services are operated by Irish Ferries and Stena Line. Alternatively, you can catch the ferry to Belfast from Liverpool or Cairnryan and continue on to Dublin by road, which takes around 2 hours.

Belfast

Northern Ireland’s capital offers an extended celebration, with festivities spanning much of March. Events get underway on 1st March with Seachtain na Gaeilge, a vibrant Irish-language festival featuring music, comedy and workshops. From 13 March, the St Patrick’s Music Festival adds even more concerts and cultural events.

On St Patrick’s Day itself, the city comes alive. The day starts with the SPAR Craic 10k, where runners in green take over the streets. Later, the Belfast St Patrick’s Day Parade fills the city with color, music and impressive performances from around 1.30pm.

How to get to Belfast:

Ferries to Belfast operate from Cairnryan and Liverpool, with services run by Stena Line. The Cairnryan to Belfast ferry takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes, while Liverpool to Belfast ferry takes approximately 8 hours.

The New York St Patrick’s Day Parade is the largest and oldest of its kind in the world. In 2026, it takes place on Tuesday 17th March along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, starting at 11am and running until around 5pm. Expect marching bands, colourful uniforms and an electric atmosphere.

Chicago

Chicago’s celebrations are instantly recognizable thanks to one unique tradition: dyeing the Chicago River bright green. Dating back to 1962, the river dyeing takes place on Saturday 14 March at 10am, drawing huge crowds each year.

The city’s main St Patrick’s Day Parade follows, marking its 70th anniversary in 2026, with Irish bands, dancers and thousands of green-clad spectators. Festivities continue on Sunday with the South Side Irish Parade along Western Avenue.
