Anzio Ferry Port

Found just an hour south of the Italian city of Rome, the seaside town of Anzio on the Mediterranean coast is a highly popular summer retreat for professionals in the capital. Its manicured beaches and rugged cliff formations have drawn people to the area ever since the days of Ancient Rome, with emperors Nero and Augustus both owning villas along the shore.

The port is easily accessible from Rome with fantastic routes via rail and road. Those travelling by train can catch one of the regular, hour-long services from the Roma Termini Railway Station in the very centre of the city, while motorists can head south through the Italian countryside via the SR207; a route that arrives within metres of the port entrance.

The port of Anzio itself is very small in size, the terminal consisting of nothing more than a ticket office and a pier leading towards the ferry docking area. The town is however a hotspot for seafood lovers and restaurants by the port offer up masterfully-prepared dishes of freshly caught fish.

Only one ferry route currently runs from the port of Anzio. A swift Laziomar service sails the short distance south across the Mediterranean to the tranquil island of Ponza a number of times each week.
